Arathusa Safari Lodge

The word “Arathusa” is derived from the Northern Sotho Word “Reathusa”, which means “to help one another” and this spirit is all too evident at Arathusa Safari Lodge – a luxury safari lodge with an emphasis on the safari part. Small, intimate, and privately owned, the lodge sits on the edge of a lake in the northern reaches of the reserve.

The chalets are the epitome of luxury with thatched roofs and wooden decks overlooking the lake – where elephants, hippo, crocodiles, and a daily stream of antelope come to drink. Each chalet has a large net-draped bed, air conditioning, and an en-suite bathroom with additional outdoor shower. The open-sided thatched living areas also look out over the lake and the executive chef serves up some sumptuous feasts – meal times are a sociable affair. From the buffet style breakfast and home baked confectionery to a three-course dinner on the deck overlooking the waterhole.

The swimming pool seems to disappear into the view and by night, beneath the stars and to the light of a campfire one of the rangers will impress you with his celestial knowledge. Inside the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Arathusa Safari Lodge is about the wildlife and wilderness experience. The friendly, experienced rangers with their uncannily gifted trackers get frequent close-up sightings of Africa’s Big 5 as well as zebra, giraffe, kudu, warthog, and several smaller plains species. Add in interpretive bush walks, birdlife, nocturnal mammals, geography, and fauna and you really do get the most complete and fascinating safari experience.
