Join Africa Photographic Travel and Nikon SA on this wildlife photographic workshop which includes 2 nights in one of South Africa's premier wildlife reserves, the Kruger National Park, famous for its astounding variety of mammal and bird species.
The workshop will be made up of theoretical sessions, practical outings and group discussions. Our professional wildlife photographers and lecturers, will take you through a theoretical step by step process, showing and explaining to you, how to choose the ideal camera settings to use in each situation you may be faced with whilst out photographing wildlife and nature. You pro photographer will offer artistic guidelines and insights into some of the tricks of the trade that will enable you to take your personal photography to the next level and capture great wildlife images.
The practical outings both early morning and evening will be conducted on board our own private, open game drive vehicle. Here your pro photographer will assist you with putting the theory into practice, assisting you with settings and ideas for every situation you encounter. One these practical outings you will have the unrivaled opportunity to unrestricted gate times, we may come and go as we please, allowing is to be out before sunrise and long after sunset, allowing us opportunity to encounter some of the Krugers nightlife. We will also have access to the wilderness areas, 4x4 routes and areas normally inaccessible to the public, allowing us exclusivity at most sightings in these areas.
Check in time at the camps in the Kruger is 2:00pm. Once everyone has arrived we will have a quick introduction and briefing in order to get cameras set up before heading out on our first game drive. Our game drive will continue into the night and we can decide when we are ready to return to the camp. Fires will be started before we arrive back in camp in order to assist us with dinner prep
We will aim to leave shortly before sunrise in the early morning in order to make the most of the best light of the day. But before we depart we will have a quick tea or coffee. On drive we will explore various areas always on the look out for great photographic opportunities. We will return back to camp round 10:30am for breakfast / brunch. After brunch our lectures will start where we will cover all the intricacies of wildlife photography and how to master your camera. At around 3:30pm we will once again head out on another practical session returning later in the evening
Once again after a cup of tea or coffee we will head out before sunrise for our last outing together, here we will refresh everything we have learnt over the past two days before heading back to the camp around mid morning. There will be ample opportunity after returning to the camp to chat with your pro photographer should you wish to recap anything before heading on our way home.

Wow!! What a weekend.
I heard about the safari workshop through an email sent to me by Nikon.
The weekend was a massive success with so many highlights over the weekend that we spent exploring the art of wildlife photography.
After arriving at the guesthouse, we settled down and chatted about what is was that each person wanted out of the weekend. And I believe everyone’s expectancies were met. I’ve attended a few workshops at Nikon, and this weekend was excellent because of the personal interaction – which, I know, isn’t always possible at the workshops with the larger number of people. That is the nice thing about a course like this, everyone is there for their own specific reasons and a group size of six guests allows the pro photographer to ensure that each person gets the attention that they need to improve their skills and reach their goals.
The accommodation setup was also perfect. I know Hilton mentioned that they are looking to include meals with the trip – which will obviously increase the price. Maybe include breakfast, but keep the dinners as is?
Thank you to the organisers, this was really a memorable experience and I did learn a lot. Thank you to Hilton, who is an excellent teacher, very professional, passionate and patient. Now I just need to go out and practice. I am also impressed with the new 80-400 which I used that weekend!
I will definitely do this again.
My friend, George, and I attended the Nikon wildlife photography workshop at the KNP Pretoriuskop the past weekend with Hilton Kotze. We both found it extremely informative and wish to thank our host, Hilton Kotze, as well as Nicolene, who always assisted promptly with all our enquiries for the course.
The practical sessions, combined with the theoretical background provided, and the personal level on which Hilton taught each person based on their level of knowledge, added value to the experience.
